Project
Perimeter Intrusion Detection System
We provided planning, design, construction support and commissioning for the Perimeter Protection Project at Miami International Airport, which comprises installing a perimeter intrusion detection system (PIDS) solution to enhance security at the airport.
The overall project is one of two initiatives where airports are partnering with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to evaluate cutting-edge perimeter intrusion detection and deterrence technologies. Results from these pilots will be used to inform perimeter security at other airports.
At Miami International, multiple sensor technologies were integrated into an existing physical security information management (PSIM) platform. New devices were incorporated into the existing Airport Operation Center (AOC) display and monitoring systems via existing networks. Special systems included cameras, CCTV, network, switches, laser wall, radars, and fence-mounted fiber-optic cable sensing and detection.
In areas with open ground along the perimeter, a directional boring process was used to install conduit pipe underground and laterally along the fence line. This tactic required extra planning and utility coordination upfront, but expedited construction. The project also required coordination with other construction work on the airfield.
